Sunningdale

Welcome to our first overseas episode! Gabe visited the UK last year and did some course vlogging on his travels. So this is the first of that series. Discover the ancient city of Bath where crew member Pat actually used to live before coming to America. Then it’s onto Sunningdale Golf Club to the West of London. Gabe meets up with Leighton Walker for this trip. Leighton is one of the hosts on the podcast ‘Golf Club Talk UK,’ so make sure you check them out.

Ancient City of Bath

This is the first stop of the UK tour. Bath is a great city and has a very heavy Roman influence. The most famous attraction is the Roman Baths, originally used by the Romans as a communal recreation/relaxation space. You can tour the main Baths and also the backrooms to learn where the water is sourced and how it is heated. You can also try the water, which tastes a little funky (not dissimilar to The fountain of youth)! The city’s architecture is unique even for the UK and it is definitely worth checking out the Royal Crescent and the Circus for some spectacular building design. Plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants are on offer so this is a great town to visit for a few days.

Sunningdale Golf Club

After a quick visit to Windsor Castle, the guys head to Sunningdale; One of the oldest and most famous Heathland courses in this region, the club has held many Championships and will be hosting the Senior Open Championship in 2020. The New Course is ranked number 4 in the UK and number 43 in the world. Don’t let the word ‘New’ deceive you though, this course was first opened in 1923, although the routing of holes has changed several times since that date. Heathland courses are very unique to the UK, they play firm and fast and have heather and gorse surrounding the fairways. Extremely punishing if you’re offline but visually stunning, and artistically challenging. There are plenty of great heathland style courses in the areas around London, definitely worth a visit for the golf junkies out there.
