I recently got a chance to get hands on with the new TaylorMade SIM 2 Driver – taking it for a spin alongside my current gamer – and wanted to share the review with you. To make a long story short, I was blown away by the distance and the accuracy I achieved with the SIM 2. Read on for the full story or check out our Taylormade SIM 2 Driver Review on YouTube.
The SIM 2 Is a Massive Leap Forward
Generally upgrades in golf come incrementally. There might be a few yards gained or a few degrees shaved with each iteration, but it’s rare that a club is a massive upgrade from the previous generation. But the TaylorMade SIM 2 Driver has completely blown my expectations out of the water.
When pitted directly against my go-to driver I was seeing gains of up to 20 yards with the TaylorMade SIM 2, with dispersion that was tighter than a Victorian era corset (from what I’ve seen in movies at least).
That’s nothing to sneeze at. In fact, if I can hit a ball as straight or even straighter AND 20 yards longer I know I’ll be shaving a few strokes off the index. Because 20 yards is the difference between hitting a 6 iron into a green instead of a 4 iron, or an 8 iron instead of a 6.
That’s a big difference in terms of accuracy. In fact, Shot Scope recently provided data which we explored in a recent video on why longer is in fact, better in all cases and leads to closer approach shots. I highly recommend you check out that video if you haven’t already.
My Test Results
They say the proof is in the pudding. So here is the data for you. The top of this chart shows my stock driver, the Callaway Epic. The numbers below show the SIM 2 averages.
My spin numbers were way down. Around 500 rpms lower which is why I saw increased carry and roll out. On average I hit the Taylormade SIM 2 driver 10 yards further with only a difference of 1.5 mph swing speed.
If you watch the video you’ll see my mishits were considerably better as well. Sometimes up to 30 yards different!
Verdict on my Taylormade SIM 2 Review
Let’s put it this way… I will be first in line to buy it on launch day. With my own hard-earned money. It’s that good.
